Coasteering and Kayaking in Polzeath, Cornwall
Kayaking

We have four types of Kayak session:

  • Introduction / Family fun session 2-3 hours (£30 / person)
  • Three hour guided kayak tour 3 hours (£40 / person)
  • Combined kayak and coasteering 3 hours (£45 / person)
  • Full day kayaking - approx. 6hours (£70 / person)

Session format:

If possible please try and meet at our base 10 minutes before the start time. Once we have said hi there is a medical/participation form to fill in for each person and any payments to sort. We will then issue kit and get you to follow us down to the days location we will have parking spaces for you at no cost, then we will change into wetsuits if we haven't decided to do this up at HQ. The session will then commence (Please see more detailed information for particular session content).Once the session is over and everyoneʼs back on dry land we will change back out of our wetsuits at the location, and you are free to go!

Intro session:

This is an introduction to sit on top sea kayaking and an exploration of one of our sheltered harbour locations at Port Quin, Port Isaac or Port Gaverne. This is great for a family session or a group of mixed ability as everyone can just jump on the kayaks and have a go without committing to a longer journey along the coast whilst still have a great time in a stunning location. We go over the kayaks, basic paddle strokes and safety information about our setting, following that we get out on the water to put the theory into practice. We will tailor the session to suit the group and just because we are not going too far along the coast, we can still challenge you if you wish! We generally use double kayaks for their stability but singles are available also.

What we provide: Wetsuit (if required), Wetsuit boots, Buoyancy aid, Helmet, Kayak, Local Qualified instructor with plenty of knowledge and experience, and an adventure!

What you need to bring: Wetsuit if you have your own, Swim wear for under wetsuit, Towel, Warm clothes to change into when back at base, water and some sunscreen if it's sunny!

Payment:

We can only accept cash or cheque payment, as we do not have a card facility.

3 hour kayak session:

This session is much the same as the intro but we offer the chance to go on a coastal journey of around 2 miles there and 2 miles back. We hope to take in some large sea caves, plenty of stunning coastline and some hidden coves - along with a great array of sea and bird life. This session can't be run if there are medium strength winds and swells over a certain size. A good basic level of fitness is required (especially as an adult if paddling with younger children on a double kayak), however, many families and groups complete these routes with ease. It is also advantageous to have kayaking experience but it is not essential – if you are happy on and in the water, generally this is enough to have a great time.

Age and weight restrictions:

We recommend a minimum age of 10 (younger by arrangement) for our kayak tours - provided the child is on a double kayak with an adult who can, if needed, paddle for them. We do not have an upper age limit but just use common sense please. Call or email if you have a specific concern.

Weight limit:

Kayaks become unstable if you are too heavy for their buoyancy also people can find the seating position uncomfortable if carrying much excess weight we recommend nobody heavier than 17 stones on kayaks although we have taken a few Rugby players out who were nearer 20 stone! Please let us know if you are over weight before booking as we can alter the session to suit your needs. Normally it is best to do a more sheltered intro session.
